How to promote a church event in metro Atlanta

Published Oct. 15, 2026 by Spread the Word ATL

A great church event only helps your community if people know about it. These steps work for trunk-or-treats, fall festivals, revivals, VBS and fundraisers. None of them guarantees a crowd, but together they make your event much easier to find.

1. Start three to four weeks out

Many community calendars and newsletters are moderated, so an editor reviews each listing before it goes up, and that can take days. Families also plan October weekends early. Posting early gives both time to work.

2. Write one clear, complete description

Before you post anywhere, write down: the event name, date, start and end time, full address, cost (say "free" if it's free), who it's for, what to expect (candy, food, games, music), parking and a contact. Reuse the same details everywhere so nothing conflicts.

3. Make one great image

A simple flyer with the name, date, time and address readable on a phone screen does more than a busy design.

4. Give it a home page

Create one page for the event, on your church website or a free event page, and link to it everywhere. When people search for "trunk or treat near me," a page with the date, time and address is what they need.

5. Use your own channels first

Announce it from the pulpit, in the bulletin, in your email or text list and on your church's social accounts. Ask members to share it with neighbors. Personal invitations still work best.

6. Get on local calendars and community pages

Metro Atlanta has many free local event calendars, family sites, neighborhood groups and city or county calendars. Each has its own rules, and many approve listings by hand. Follow each one's guidelines, and don't post the same message over and over in community groups.

7. Signs: keep them legal

Yard signs help with walk-up traffic, but rules matter. In Cobb County, for example, code enforcement says temporary signs for events like church gatherings must be on private property with the owner's permission, never in medians, trees, utility poles or traffic signs. Check your own city or county's rules.

8. Remind people

Post a reminder the week of the event and the day before, with weather updates if it's outdoors.
